Michael Young

Michael is an assistant professor in the computer science department at NC State University and directs the Liquid Narrative Group. He supervises the architectural design and development of Zocalo and its constituent parts. Mostly he just watches what his students come up with and smiles (see photo).

Arnav Jhala

Arnav is a PhD student in the Liquid Narrative Group whose research focuses on the use of discourse planning techniques applied to 3D camera control in games. Arnav developed the representation of belief within Crossbow, the planning system used within Zocalo.

Justin Harris

Justin is an MS student in the Liquid Narrative Group whose research focuses on the management and control of interactive story plans inside games via a process called mediation. Justin is the principle developer of Crossbow, the planning system used within Zocalo, as well as Crosswind and Kyudo, the mediation services available within Zocalo.

James Neihaus

James is a PhD student in the Liquid Narrative Group whose research focuses on the representation of causal and temporal expectation within narratives and techniques for improving huamn learning via the manipulation of expectation. James developed the code responsible for hierarchical planning within Crossbow, the planning system used within Zocalo.

Brian Shiver

Brian is an MS student in the Liquid Narrative Group whose research focuses on interfaces for narrative story construction. Brian developed much of the code in Bowman, the GUI used for developing and debugging plan libraries in Crossbow, the planning system used within Zocalo.

Jim Thomas

Jim is a PhD student in the Liquid Narrative Group whose research focuses on the development of authoring tools for story generation, particularly involving advisable planning techniques. Jim is the principle developer of Bowman, the GUI used for developing and debugging plan libraries in Crossbow, the planning system used within Zocalo. Jim is also an NSF Graduate Fellow.

Tommy Vernieri

Tommy is an MS student in the Liquid Narrative Group whose research focuses on service-oriented architectures for AI and interactive narrative. Tommy is the principle designer for Zocalo and its federation of internal web services.
